Biography
Laura Colmenares Guerra is a Colombian artist based in Brussels. Their artistic practice sits at the intersection of technology, environmental advocacy, and installation art. Their work critically examines the complex relationships between contemporary Western societies and the natural world, with a particular focus on ecosystems and environmental justice. Working primarily through installation art, CGI (3D animation & GIS), Virtual Reality, and clay 3D printing, Laura has developed a distinctive interdisciplinary approach that merges seemingly disparate elements: traditional clay work, cutting-edge 3D technologies, and landscape analysis. Their installations often employ interactive technologies to create immersive experiences that encourage viewers to engage physically with the artwork. Laura's journey as an artist includes a notable background as a video performer, beginning in Bogotá's early Techno scene and evolving into experimental live audiovisual performances. Their work has been showcased worldwide, including The Festival Scopitone-Stereolux in Nantes, The Centre Wallonie-Bruxelles in Paris, The Alexander Kasser Theatre in New Jersey, and the Museum of Contemporary Art of Montreal. Their educational background includes a Master in Arts: Electronic Media & Arts of Time from Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, and they have continued to expand their expertise through specialized training in 3D printing, VFX, and interactive media at various institutions in Belgium. They regularly share their knowledge through workshops, teaching subjects related to 3D animation, GIS and landscape analysis at institutions across Europe.
